McDonald's Japan has recently launched Shaka Shaka Chicken as a 100 yen menu item to much success, replacing probably the best item they ever had the 100 yen McChicken burger. An extension of the shaker fries campaign which was wildly popular particularly with younger customers. The Shaka Shaka Chicken is the chicken patty used in the McChicken burger. It is deep fried and then served in a wax lined bag. Japanese Customers get a choice of three seasonings including: cheese, lemon pepper and a hot chilli one. The packaging is great, bright, cheerful and explains easily how to use the product. On the rear of the product a QR Quick Response code takes Japanese Customers to a Shaka Shaka Chicken information page. http://mdq.jp/ssc
For Example:
The Shaka Chaka Chicken nutrient information page
The hot chilli sachet nutrient information page
Imagine the Shaka Shaka Chicken will attract a lot of new customers and satisfy regulars as well. The inclusion on the 100 yen menu is a great position as it gives excitement of the shaker fries experience and takes it to a new audience. My casual observations note that younger customers are enjoying the new menu item. The use of the McChicken patty is a good idea as it is a good size and great taste that will ensure many repeat customers.
