Pizza franchises eye a business chance and get their flyers in letterboxes for the world cup match tonight between Japan and Paraguay

Picture: Quattro - Meat the World Pizza by Domino Pizza - Japan.

The local pizza shops in Tokyo this evening planning on a big television audience for tonight's World Cup soccer match between Japan and Paraguay were ready with their flyer's in consumers letterboxes. The suggestive pictures of pizza, subs and pasta maybe just enough of a push for sports fans to stay up and order a pizza for watching the big game. A Quattro pizza by Domino's Pizza - Japan would be a good selection for watching the world cup as it has four corners, each representing a country, United States (New York Barbecue Sauce), Spain (Iberico pork with tomato sauce,) Japan (Chicken Teriyaki) & Korea (beef).

A typical pizza flyer in Japan is an excursion of choice, variety and colour. Exotic toppings, innovative mixtures of ingredients, two main sizes (25cm and 36cm) and a plethora of base choices (four on a typical Domino's Pizza flyer). Japanese customers can order their pizza with Domino's three ways, 1. Online and get a 5% discount or 2. Order from their mobile phone using a QR code on the flyer and 3. by telephone. Unfortunately in a big city like Tokyo, there are no time guarantees, with close to 6000 people per square kilometre. Drool at the choices and amazing variety Japanese customers have here

Pizza is an ideal respite for the blistering humidity that has engulfed the city this week as summer nudges consumers.

Japanese customers see price drops on a range of daily consumer products

The recent deflation in Japan has seen the price of a range of daily use consumer products drop significantly in price. For example: Ghana chocolate, which is a 60 gram product that usually sells at 105 yen at convenience stores and supermarkets has been selling on sale at 67 yen a price reduction of 36%. Ghana a favourite chocolate brand in Japan is in my opinion used as a draw card for customers, like Coca Cola is discounted by supermarkets and Levi jeans are discounted by department stores in Australia. Customers notice the price of their favourite product as they pass by and are drawn by it stand out packaging and its price at the time they pass. If it is cheap they will stop, if it isn't they just keep walking. If chocolate is a guide to price then we wonder how low it can go. From the consumers perspective they are excited by any price reductions and buy up big when they see it at a low price.

iPad user at McDonalds store in Tokyo generates buzz among customers this morning

iPad user at local McDonald's store in Tokyo generates buzz among other customers this morning

By JapaneseCustomer.com

This morning I dropped into my local McDonald's in Tokyo for a coffee break after shopping and sitting over from me was a young man in his thirties who was busy working on what looked like a computer. The seats next to him were empty and soon after a couple in their fifties sat down next to him on the stool type seats. After they finished their meal and were about to leave they looked over at the man next door and asked him in Japanese if what he was using was an iPad. Yes he said. The older man asked may I have a look and the younger man said "Yes". They exchanged a number of comments about the look, feel and use. All were positive. The older couple were suitably impressed and the young man looked proud as he had been noticed using an iPad. Everyone else sitting around sat up & payed attention (straight ears on a rabbit). I must say I was surprised as customers rarely exchange comments. The buzz around what they were saying & doing was watched and listened to by all those in the area. It was my first glimpse of the iPad in Japan and it looked great. The buzz that iPad generated in my local McDonald's took me by surprise. Must say I only noticed the iPad when the older couple started talking and holding the product & others around me started paying attention. The key in Japan is that people watch what others are doing. This is how the iPod took off in Tokyo in 2005. First you saw one person on the train with the neck sash and white earphones, later you saw more white earphones and now its just the norm. If the buzz that I saw this morning at my local McDonald's during a coffee break is any indication then I feel iPad may have a great acceptance in Japan. I look forward to see them for rental at all major Japan airports soon!
