Japanese customers may pay more for fossil fuels as new fuel tax mulled for financing new green technologies

"Under the current law, crude oil is taxed 2,040 yen, or $23.90, a kiloliter; liquefied petroleum gas and liquefied natural gas at 1,080 yen a metric ton; and thermal coal 700 yen a ton. Coking coal hasn't been, and won't be, taxed, as with all raw materials used in manufacturing."
