".. the 1,400 trillion yen in financial assets held by Japanese households are buying up government bonds, but Kazumasa Oguro, an associate professor of economics at Hitotsubashi University's Institute of Economic Research, said, "By around 2020, government debt will swallow up household savings."

Japanese workers in 30s experience majority of mental health problems according to recent survey

" .. according to a survey by the Japan Productivity Center..survey, conducted in April and May, covered 2,243 listed companies. Among the 251 firms who gave valid responses, 44.6 percent said the number of employees with mental health problems, such as depression, has increased over the past three years...By age bracket, 58.2 percent of employees with mental problems are in their 30s and 22.3 percent are in their 40s...In order to reverse the trend, companies have to strengthen preventive measures, such as improving the office atmosphere."

Free toll highways have stimulated demand in Japan & boosted train usage by Japanese customers according to research


"The number of passengers riding shinkansen bullet trains and local trains..during the week of Aug. 11-18 week rose 2% on the year to 9.43 million, marking the first rise in two years...attribute the increase to the government's decision to allow 1,000 yen highway toll discounts only on weekends this year.
