"Japan’s undergraduate population numbers a steady three million. In 2004, almost 83,000 Japanese students studied abroad. By 2009, this number had dropped to less than 60,000. In 2011, only 21,290 Japanese students studied abroad in America, less than half the number in 2001. In June 2011, Disco, a recruitment company, surveyed 1,000 Japanese companies regarding their 2012 recruitment plans. Less than 25% planned to hire applicants who went abroad."
