Matsuzakaya department store in Japan closes Ginza store after 88 years and many firsts

"the Matsuzakaya Ginza store finally closed its doors for the last time on June 30, after 88 years of serving customers... it was customary to remove shoes upon entering department stores like at home, but the Matsuzakaya Ginza store was the first to allow shoppers in wearing shoes. Although the issue of shoes generated controversy among staff members, the idea spread to other department stores as a symbol of Westernization."
