Japanese customers drawn to cheaper English lessons using online classes as fees drop

"more Japanese are brushing up their English through online classes using smartphones and tablets, drawn by the convenience and low cost compared with conventional lessons in a classroom….The spread of lower-cost e-learning is pushing some brick-and-mortar language schools to cut lesson fees…a survey of big English school chains by Recruit Lifestyle Co., the going monthly rate for a once-a-week, 50-minute class with 4-10 students was around 10,000 yen in 2007, but it now starts at about 4,000 yen."
