Politics Japan - The LDP & Komeito won the Upper House election and gain majority in the Diet, voter turn out lower

"60 LDP candidates were declared to be winners, while nine Komeito candidates were assured of victory....Voter turnout was about 51 percent, down from 57.92 percent in the 2010 upper house election....voters went to the polls at about 49,000 voting stations, most opening at 7 a.m. and closing at 8 p.m. The 17-day battle leading up to Sunday’s race was fought among a total of 433 candidates--271 in Tokyo and the prefecturewide constituencies and 162 under the proportional representation system."
