Ethiopian coffee is ten times more expensive in Japan than South American as Japanese consumers want the freshest

“In Japan, Ethiopian coffee is much more expensive, maybe 10 times, than those from South America,” said Meshesha, who carried out business in Japan for more than five years..“There are no direct flights between Japan and Ethiopia, but Japanese want fresh coffee. So the transportation cost is high,” he said, “our coffee mainly sells to small businessmen and aims at high-level consumers.”
